Looking West to Wideford Hill, Kirkwall

3.   Kirkwall Marina can be approached from the NW through Eynhallow Sound, from the North through Vasa Sound and from the East through Shapinway Sound. Make for a waypoint, position 59º 01.3' N 2º 57.1' W. The final approach is with St Magnus Cathedral bearing 190ºT. The entrance to Kirkwall Marina is immediately to the East of the large grey ice plant on the pierhead.

All provisions can be obtained with shops and supermarkets close to Kirkwall Marina. The main street is just behind the Kirkwall Hotel. There are several hotels facing the harbour a within a short walk from Kirkwall Marina. The Ayre hotel offered reasonably food. The locals queue for the Fish'n'Chips, which must be a good sign.
